A multiplayer SQL quiz for the classroom
Classroom mode turns SpeedQL into a group quiz: the teacher creates a game, shows a code and a QR code, and students join from their phone or computer. Everyone gets the same set of SQL questions but moves at their own pace: fast students are never held back, and the others are never cut off in the middle of a query.
- 60 students per game
- 5 to 20 questions
- 5 to 30 minutes
- 0 accounts to create
How do you run a game in class?
- Click “Create a game”, then choose the level (beginner, intermediate, pro or progressive), the number of questions and the length.
- Show the screen: it displays the address speedql.app/class, the 6-digit code and a QR code.
- Students enter the code and a nickname; their names appear live on the screen.
- Start the game: after a countdown, each student writes their queries, checked instantly against real tables.
- The ranking updates live. At the end, a podium and the success rate of each question show which topics to go over together.
Why use a SQL quiz in class?
Students practise real SELECT, JOIN or GROUP BY queries, not multiple-choice questions: the checker compares the result of their query with the expected result, so any correct query is accepted. On a phone, they build queries by tapping words instead of typing SQL on a small keyboard. And the success rate per question tells you right away which topic to review on the board.
To practise before or after class, students can use the custom SQL exercises or the SQL cheat sheet.
Classroom mode FAQ
Do teachers need an account for SpeedQL’s classroom mode?
No. The teacher creates a game without signing up and gets a 6-digit code; students enter it with a nickname. There is nothing to install: everything runs in the browser, on a computer, tablet or phone.
How many students can join the same game?
Up to 60 students per game. For a larger group, create a second game: it gets its own code.
How are points calculated in classroom mode?
A correct answer earns 1,000 points if it is instant, then 5 points less per second, down to a minimum of 500 points. A skipped question earns nothing, and a mistake never costs points.
What student data is kept?
Only the chosen nickname and the game scores, deleted two hours after the end (three hours if the game never starts). The SQL queries students type never leave their device.
